paper is much stronger (FOR THE SAME WEIGHT)
then metals (except Beryllium) and modern plastic hyped up in hi-fi
|Young's Modulus is for ONE BIG PIECE of the material.
|Carbon fibre, glass fibre, woven Kevlar is
MUCH MUCH WEAKER than ONE BIG PIECE of the material because ..........
The fibres will "slide" over one another,
so the strength depends
on the inferior strength of the adhesive
( or the inferior strength
of air, because ... )
( how can you glue ALL of the thousands of fibres, )
( without getting a bad glue joint on a few fibres ? )
If the Young's Modulus of the adhesive is better than the fibres,
you might has well use the adhesive on its own,

which quickly dampens any cone break up / resonance / ringing
|Metal and modern hard ish plastics have poor 'mechanical loss',
so they are very poor at dampening any cone break up / resonance /
and they ring like a bell. VERY AUDIBLE AS TOO MUCH UPPER MIDRANGE
/ LOWER TREBLE
for many 6 inch metal or modern hard ish plastics speakers !
|It might be okay to use TINY 1 inch metal or hard ish plastic dome,
because the troublesome cone break up / resonance can be pushed into
the ultrasonic range.
(Unfortunately, DVD audio enthusiast claims that the ultrasonic
range affects the music.)
|The problem becomes much worst,
when you're trying to use metal or modern hard ish plastics for 6 inch
which usually produces cone break up / resonance / ringing around 5
kilohertz to 8 kilohertz.
|The crossover does NOT stop ALL of 5 kHz to 8 kHz reaching the mid
so many 6 inch metal or hard ish plastics speakers tend to resonate
/ ring around 5 kHz to 8 kHz
(and some people will wrongly blame the tweeter),
so human voices sounds forward and 'in your face'
and you get false exaggerated imaging ( excessive high frequency improves
and it sounds very impressive in the high street shop.
|Take it home, and after two weeks,
the cone break up / resonance / ringing around 5 kHz to 8 kHz
makes female voices sounds too thin,
exaggerates sibilance (when a woman says his, it sounds like hissssssk),
and it gets more and more irritating
and hi-fi magazines will tell you to buy GBP £200 interconnects,
GBP £1000 speaker cables,
the latest GBP £1000 CD player,
throw away the CD player and buy a turn table,
instead of DOING SOMETHING OBVIOUS, LIKE CHANGING THE SPEAKERS ! !

and is more believable and more realistic than our best electrostatic
|Our best electrostatic speakers were launched in 1957 (late 1956)
and were very good 50 years ago,
but the treble rolls off BEFORE 10 kHz (unless you are hi-fi reviewer
and got a specially selected sample, please read review in an old copy
of Studio Sound magazine.)
and female voices sounds muffled (not enough High Frequency) (Please
look at the frequency response curves, before you disagree.)

HEADS, PINCH ROLLERS, ETC., I cannot really tell.

|I was listening on axis (horizontally and vertically) to make sure
that the loss in high frequency
was not caused by the poor polar response of electrostatic speakers.
